Kia Headshot in Color

New York raised me. Philadelphia prepared me. Florida embraced me.

Let’s revisit

My childhood for a second, just so you know where my head was at as a kid.

Growing up my dream was to be on TV. If I had my way, my happy place would have been somewhere in the middle of a Vanessa Huxtable and Laura Ingalls Wilder sandwich, with a little Whitney Houston heading up our soundtrack.

Fast forward to my graduation day from Temple University in Philadelphia. You see, once I realized that I would never be on TV, I set my sights on a career in TV and Film. Temple was the best place for me to get the foundation I needed to have the career I wanted, however like most college graduates I had no idea how this would come to pass.

Although I had no idea how I was going to break into this elite business, I always believed that it would happen.

Through a series of events, too many to recount for an “introduction to who I am on my website” I landed my dream job! I started as a casting assistant and quickly worked my way up to Casting Director/Manager of Talent.

I found what I loved at Nickelodeon and I spent the first 10 years of my adult life living my best life. While at Nickelodeon I had the opportunity to work with some of the most creative people I’ve ever met both in front of the camera and behind it.

One thing you might not realize about a casting director is that we are rooting for you. We root for you to the point of exhaustion and despair.

We know that for you as an artist, just walking in the door is the most vulnerable state you could ever be. As a casting director, the moments that truly reminded me of my purpose were the moments I spent helping, guiding and fighting for actors. Identifying their potential and making the time to work with them, no matter the end result, gave me the most satisfaction. It was in these moments that StarCatcher Acting Studio was born.

StarCatcher Acting Studio was born out of my desire and passion to help actors of all levels reach their potential.

It’s my job to help actors find the truth and deliver an organic performance. As an actor it’s your job to tell someone’s story truthfully. We approach each story with imagination, empathy and vulnerability. My method is the “Kia” way mixed in with a little Uta Hagen, Stanislavski, and Stella Adler. I believe learning is a unique and individual experience.

When I’m not teaching classes at the studio, you can find me on set coaching on some pretty cool projects in some pretty cool places.
